Correspondence and documentation submitted by persons or their agents claiming bounties under the provisions of Maryland Laws of 1864, ch. 15 and supplementary acts, 1864-1868. Among the numerous documents are affidavits of slave ownership and of freedom; bounty certificates and lists; death certificates; discharge papers; draft notices; manusmissions; muster rolls; pension claims for the Revolutionary War, War of 1812, and Civil War; powers of attorney, and substitutions. No apparent arrangement.

The office of Comptroller of the Treasury was established by the Constitution of 1851 to "have the general superintendence of the fiscal affairs of the state." The position is filled by popular election. The original four-year term of office was reduced to two by the Constitution of 1864, and increased to four again by the Constitution of 1867.
